A cheap solution for energy storage

Energy storage is important for both home systems and industry. One way is with so-called flooded batteries. They are lead-acid and similar in design to starter batteries, but designed for deep discharge and long-term operation.

Characteristics

• The electrolyte is in a liquid state;
• They need periodic maintenance, including topping up with distilled water (please refer to the manufacturer's instructions);
• Their weight is significant and must be taken into account during transport and installation;
• They take up more space than lithium batteries
• They have a shorter life compared to lithium-ion batteries;
• If they are not recharged immediately after discharge, their capacity drops and they deteriorate more quickly.

Conclusion

Flooded batteries are a relatively cheap solution. They require more space and a stronger base than lithium. They need maintenance and monitoring. In order to have an optimal life, it is recommended to discharge them to a maximum of 50%.
