Lithium LiFePO4 batteries

A good solution for home and business

Energy storage is a question that has always faced engineers. With the development of renewable energy systems, finding a sustainable solution to this problem has become even more important. Traditional lead-acid batteries cannot perform this role well (including AGM and GEL models). The only good solution for now is lithium ion batteries.

Characteristics

They have significant advantages over lead-acid, namely:

  • many charge/discharge cycles;
  • 70% less weight than lead-acid;
  • Efficiency up to 92%;
  • almost zero self-discharge:
  • high degree of safety (only applies to LiFePO4 models);
  • endurance at incomplete charge.

A major disadvantage of lead-acid batteries

A lead-acid battery will be damaged immediately by sulphation if:

  • Operates in an incorrect mode for a long period of time (for example - rarely or never fully charges);
  • Left partially, or worse, completely depleted (on yachts, campers and caravans in winter).

Performance comparison

In many applications (especially solar or wind power) efficiency is important. The full cycle efficiency (discharge from 100% to 0% and charge to 100%) is 80% for lead-acid batteries.
In the same mode, the efficiency of lithium batteries is 92%.
The charging process for lead-acids becomes virtually inefficient when they reach 80% state of charge, dropping to 50% efficiency, even lower. This is a serious problem in solar systems, where several days of autonomous operation are required, and the batteries are operated from 70% to 100% state of charge.

Dimensions and weight

  • Take up to 70% less space;
  • They save up to 70% of the weight.

Pylontech

These batteries are considered some of the best on the market for several reasons:

  • High energy density that allows for a smaller and more compact battery design;
  • Long design life - up to 20 years, which is much more than traditional lead-acid batteries;
  • High cycle performance, meaning they can be charged and discharged many times without losing capacity.
  • The built-in management system monitors the performance of each individual cell in the battery pack, ensuring optimal performance and safety.

These products are compatible with EnerDC inverters and Victron inverters.

Conclusion

Li-ion LiFePO4 batteries are reliable energy storage devices. With their advantages: low weight, small volume and long design life, they are suitable for solar and power systems. In order to choose the most suitable combination for your needs, please write to us at mail@chepakov.com.
