If you want to build a solar power system for yourself, then a solar charge controller is one of the items you need. Basically they are of two types: MPPT and PWM. MPPTs are of the new models, but they also have a higher price. PWM-controllers are an older and cheaper models, and are used for small and irresponsible objects.
They produce up to 30% less energy than MPPT. They are recommended to work with solar panels with 36 cells (for 12Vdc systems), or with panels with 72 cells (for 24Vdc systems). They have limitations in the maximum voltage received by the photovoltaic panel. Most of them have a load output that protects the battery from excessive discharge. They are commonly used in small solar street lighting systems.
These controllers do not perform well when used with 60 cell panels (on 24Vdc systems). It is highly inadvisable to combine 60 cell PVs and PWM controllers in 12Vdc systems. For the first two combinations, we advise you to work only with suitable MPPT-controllers.
PWM solar charge controllers are a low-cost option that is implemented in small and inexpensive systems. Their price is lower, but the production is also weaker. Take a look at our controllers and choose the one that suits you best. If you wish to consult, please write to us at: mail@chepakov.com.
